About us

Birthing with Confidence
Barbara Wyant (left) and Zana Parker (right)

Hello!

Our names are Zana (rhymes with banana!) and Barbara.

We are two well-qualified and highly experienced antenatal educators with a passion for helping you feel better about birth as well as skilled to deal with it. If you want to read the longer version, please continue below! If reading all that looks a bit daunting, you're very welcome to talk to us and ask either of us about our backgrounds. We believe our qualifications and experience are both comprehensive and robust, and we're proud and delighted to share them with you. So here's the long version....!

We each have two children (not so much "children" any more!) and we met over 20 years ago via our work with new parents, teaching antenatal classes for NCT. Zana was already an established NCT teacher in Hampshire and Barbara was just completing her NCT training. The antenatal teacher training we undertook was the most comprehensive and robust training anywhere, university-validated and took around 3 years to complete. It prepared us to provide responsive, bespoke classes for groups and individuals. We are qualified to teach not just about all types of birth and the skills you need to help you through, but also to help you adjust and navigate your way through those early days and weeks with your new baby.

We trained in antenatal education as well as education itself, so you can feel assured that we know how to communicate ideas, knowledge and skills to you; we do much more than just provide "information". Our courses and classes are usually experiential so you approach birth feeling skilled, calm and confident, as well as knowledgeable. We listen carefully and respond to any concerns or questions you might have.

We each added our hypnobirthing certificates, from an RCM (Royal College of Midwives) accredited course, back in 2012. We have now combined all our skills and expertise from more than 20 years each to bring you our very own independent hypnobirthing course that we've called WOW! Hypnobirthing (and do feel free to ask us, "Why WOW!?"). We are offering our course privately, online, during the pandemic.

In the middle of all that, Barbara also completed her life-long dream to become a qualified Midwife! She is no longer practising but brings all her additional hands-on experience and knowledge to her hypnobirthing courses.

Zana decided that a certificate in Counselling would be useful to support her work with groups of new parents but then became intrigued and decided to go on to qualify as a Counsellor. She's now an accredited Counsellor and has been working in private practice since qualifying in 2010. Whilst she works with adults bringing a wide variety of concerns that they'd like to address, she (not surprisingly!) specialises in offering couselling for pregnancy, birth and parenting-related concerns.

Hypnobirthing training piqued Barbara's interest in hypnotherapy generally, so she decided to add another qualification to her long list of degrees and diplomas. She is now a qualified Hypnotherapist and can help people suffering from fears, anxieties, addictions and phobias, not necessarily related to maternity.

Both of us have attended numerous update days, study days, conferences and training in addition to all the above during the last 20+ years. If you want to know anything about our training or qualifications you are very welcome to ask.

During any spare time Barbara enjoys gardening, woodcraft, art and music.

Zana enjoys pottering in the garden, walking in the forest, music, creativity, cooking good food and sampling the odd glass of wine or beer! She's also getting used to being owned by a cat that adopted her and her partner during lockdown.
