I believe I have a unique set of qualifications, certainly in South Hampshire, being professionally qualified both as a Counsellor and an Antenatal Educator.
The information below tells you a little more about who I work with as a Counsellor in connection with pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. I recommend a look round my counselling website if you'd like more detailed information.
I initially undertook counselling training to enhance and complement my work with groups of pregnant parents, with no intention of continuing to become a qualified Counsellor. However, having completed a 1-year certificate course with good grades I decided to continue my studies by taking a 2-year Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling. I am proud to say I passed with Distinction in 2010 and have been working privately ever since. I am an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society and as such am registered with the Professional Standards Authority.
Although my Counselling work is not exclusively connected to pregnancy, birth and parenting, given my wealth of experience working with new parents I do have a special interest in this area and therefore now have a few vacancies for clients looking for this kind of specialist Counselling.
If you are struggling with any of the following or similar and would like to make an appointment for an initial chat, please do get in touch via the Contact Me page.
I am happy to consider working with you if you are:
•Afraid or anxious about becoming or being pregnant
•Afraid or anxious about labour and birth (including tokophobia/tocophobia)
•Struggling with issues around pregnancy termination
•Struggling with issues around miscarriage
•Worried about coping during labour
•Suffering following a difficult birth experience
•Finding a birth experience difficult to accept
•Feeling upset or disappointed after giving birth
•Living with postnatal depression
•Finding it hard to adjust to being a parent
•Finding relational or emotional changes difficult
Or perhaps less specifically, just looking for some extra support to help you through a difficult time.
I work 1-1 with clients in a comfortable, dedicated room in my home just outside Totton, Hampshire. It is easily accessible from the M27, Southampton, New Forest, Romsey, Winchester and the surrounding area, being just off the main A35. Journey times from Romsey or central Southampton are about 15-20 minutes. There are also bus stops nearby with regular services from Southampton and the New Forest.
After initial contact via email or the phone we may arrange to meet for an initial "taster" session that enables you and I to find out more about one-another and to make decisions about our suitability for working together. This initial session is £15 and lasts for up to an hour and a half.
Following this, if we decide to embark on regular counselling sessions the cost per session is £40.
